The Buk (or Puk) originates from South Korea. It is a barreldrum with two drumskins, where the smaller versions are carried and played by hand, while the bigger ones are mounted in a frame. Accompanying traditional songs, the right drumskin and the drumbody are hit with a long, thin drumstick, while the left drumskin is hit either with the palm or the finger tips. When used in ritual songs or ceremonies in KoreanBuddhism, the Buk is played by a priest. It is also used in shamanism.
Our Buks have a persistent, voluminous sound. We are building Buks in three standardsizes, and we also offer Buks in specialsizesonrequest. For instance, the taikogroupMasadaiko from Bremen is playing one of our drums built in Buk style with a diameter of 1,80 m. The BukdrumminggroupBuk'n Beat from the area of Hanau is drumming exclusively on Munz & SimonsenBuks.

Drum Body |
The drumbody of our Buks is made from selected elmwood segments which are glued in place without tension. The oiled surface showcases the beautiful natural grain of the individual staves.
Drum Skins |
Our drumskins are exclusively sourced from localRotbunterAllgäuerRinder cows. These skins are so resilient that they will last many years even with intense professional usage.
Metal Fittings |
Thanks to a clever and sturdy tuningmechanism – and in contrast to its Korean and Japaneseinspirations - the pitch of our Buks can be easilyadjusted - with a standard hex key.
Drum Stands |
We are also manufacturing drumstands for our Buks, where they can be mounted in just the same way as the traditional drums. We will gladly incorporate any special wishes or requirements you might have into the design of the Bukdrumstand.
